to Special Equestrians of Georgia

Our mission is to provide a nurturing therapeutic environment to help individuals facing physical, emotional, and mental challenges.

Therapeutic riding is specifically designed for people with special needs to provide benefits including increased independence, improved self- esteem and confidence, as well as positive social interactions. Today, SEG has two PATH certified instructors, a licensed Occupational Therapist and a licensed Physical Therapist to assist those with these needs, in the heart of horse country in Atlanta's North Fulton County.

In addition to our onsite riding and therapy programs, we also offer a variety of community outreach opportunities. In cooperation with the Starlight Foundation, we have miniature horses that are specially trained and house-broken that we take to visit all of the children's hospitals in the Atlanta region.

Our mini horses are also our special ambassadors to rehab centers, nursing homes, schools, and other local events such as the Abilities Expo and McKeever's First Ride.

OUR GOAL is to provide a supportive environment that empowers all types of riders through equine assisted activities to reach their full potential.

We will have to cancel our therapies indefinitely for the safety of our kids, families  and volunteers.  This pandemic, coupled with some terrible weather earlier this year, has depleted our funds substantially.  Won’t you consider making a contribution today? Any amount helps feed these horses.  We are a 501 c(3) corporation so your gift is tax deductible!

In 2007, Special Equestrians of GA expanded the program to bring the magic of horses to children and adults who, due to illness or disability can not come to the farm. Using specially trained and housebroken miniature horses, SEG travels into the community on “mini” visits to schools, hospitals, rehabs, nursing homes, and special events for both the special needs and  community at large.

The minis are comfortable with being surrounded by all types of medical equipment, from IV poles and tubing to wheel chairs and patient wagons. Chosen for their kind hearts and sweet nature, Fern, Sammy, Frankie and Murphy are quite comfortable.

While the minis visit the hospital, patients can try their hand at brushing the horses with grooming supplies and leading the horses up and down hallways and gardens.

Contact SEG today to set up your Mini encounter.
